Local artist earns another win at the World of Wearable Art in New Zealand. Published: 10/21/2010 14:00:00 Local wearable art artist David Walker has just recently returned from the World of Wearable Art show in New Zealand with another win, something that he's not unfamiliar with. He explained his history of participation in the show by saying; "This is my fourth time at WOW, World of Wearable Art, and this year I entered a piece that I entered in Juneau about four years back. I took that piece and modified it, added power to it, light to it, it's called wood, wire and fire, I placed third this year in my section, so I did pretty good." He did even better last year when he earned the Supreme award at the show for his creation "Lady of the Wood" which had also won the top honors at the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council's Wearable Art Show. Patricia Hull, the Director of the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council's annual Wearable Art Show told us; "We're really excited about David's wins, not only this year but last year, and really putting our little wearable art on the map. Patricia also unveiled the theme for Juneau's next Wearable arts show, as perhaps a guideline for aspiring artists. She says; "It's interesting that his piece that won this year had light involved with it because our theme is "Illuminate" and it's going to encourage the artist to use light; both lighted elements that might come from within the outfit, as well as the art, how it might react to external lighting sources." The upcoming Wearable Art show in Juneau is on February 12th and 13th, and we asked David if he'll be entering the show again this year. "Yeah, well I'm working on something, and well you know, we'll see how it goes.
